Brad Jones Racing is proud to support the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation at the Bathurst 1000.
CLCRF is a Western Australia charity that is close to both team owners, Brad and Kim Jones, hearts. BJR will carry the charity’s emblem on the B-Pillar of Nick Percat & Thomas Randle’s Supercar to raise awareness for this extraordinary charity.
“We’re proud to be able to support such a special charity for the Supercars season finale,” said Kim Jones.
“Cancer is a horrible illness and unfortunately in this day and age everyone in some way shape or form has been affected by this disease. It’s been a tough year for everyone so hopefully we can help raise some awareness and help research continue to one day potentially children having a cancer free life.”
Justin Bruce, CLCRF board member for over a decade, is thankful to BJR as he understands first hand how devastating childhood leukaemia can be, “Funding research is very important to me as I was diagnosed with leukaemia as a child aged 4. During this time the survival rates were less than 20% with very little to no research done in WA. Although cured at age 8 the cancer treatments of the day have had long term effects on me.
“Having the valued support from Brad Jones Racing is an incredible opportunity for the Children’s Leukaemia and Cancer Research Foundation to raise awareness and funds for much needed research so the children of today do not need to suffer what I did. Thank you to Brad and Kim for their support and I’d like to wish the team great success for the weekend.” Stated Bruce.
For 40 years the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation (Inc) has been raising funds for research into childhood cancers. Australia has one of the highest incidences of childhood cancer worldwide. One in 500 Australian children will develop a cancer before 15 years of age – that’s 600 Australian children diagnosed every year. Childhood cancer is the single greatest cause of death from disease in Australian children, with three children losing their lives to cancer every week. In Australia, childhood cancer is second only to breast cancer in terms of the number of years of life lost by the disease.
The quest to find cures for childhood cancer is one of medicine’s greatest success stories. Fifty years ago, only two percent of children with cancer survived. Medical research alone has improved overall survival rates to 80 percent. With childhood cancer still the leading cause of death from disease in Australian children, there is much more work to be done.
CLCRF has a commitment to ensure this ground-breaking research continues so that the future generations will be the ones to live cancer free. The Foundation relies on the generous support of the community to continue its vital research, as they do not receive State or Federal funding.
